Erika McCarthy is a communications expert
with more than 12 years of experience in broadcast, print, radio
and online media. She started her career at a high-technology public
relations agency, launching pre-IPO companies including Lycos and
Fairmarket, Inc. Three years later, she became the public relations
manager for Boston's Children's Museum, where she expanded the Museum's
visibility to national proportions, increasing attendance and playing
an instrumental role in the Museum's strategic purchase of the Computer
Museum.
From the Museum, McCarthy
launched her own public relations practice, E. McCarthy Communications,
seizing the opportunity to run the show and put the best of her
experience, creativity and media contacts, to work for her clients.
Since establishing her own practice, McCarthy
has placed stories for clients in the consumer, educational, healthcare,
non-profit and technology industries in prominent media channels
including the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Christian Science Monitor,
Self Magazine, USA Today, Washington Post, Worcester Telegram &
Gazette, WCVB-TV, WCVB-TV's Chronicle, NECN, WBZ-AM's Paul Sullivan
Show, and multiple trade and regional outlets nationwide. She has
also written for the UMass Boston Alumni Magazine and several community
newspapers, and has guest lectured on public relations at local
universities. She earned both a master of arts degree in communications
and bachelor of science degree in journalism from Suffolk University.
